As Joe and Winnie prepared for their second child, Joe was called to serve his country and sent into the Korean War conflict. Their son was born on August 10, 1951, but Jimmy Lee Long did not see his father until he was a few months old. As a toddler and young boy, he most resembled his Dad. Eventually, he wanted to shorten his name to Jim.
