Joe and Winnie welcomed their first born child, Joe William Long, on September 7, 1949. Their son was named after his father and grandfathers on both parents side. He was called Joe Billy when he was small but eventually just Billy through his grade-school years until he shortened it to Bill. He was known as Mr. Bill to his racing & fishing communities.
